Laparoscopic (Keyhole) Surgery for Hysterectomy and More in Brisbane

At Greenslopes Gynaecology we are proud to offer a wide range of services to our patients. One of these services is what’s known as laparoscopic, or keyhole, surgery.

What is keyhole surgery?

Also known as ‘minimally invasive', this method has revolutionised all areas of surgery including gynaecology and cancer operations.

It is performed using very small incisions in the abdominal wall, which allows a high definition camera to give spectacularly clear pictures of the pelvis and abdomen to allow almost any procedure that can be done with a large incision (laparotomy) but with all the benefits of small incisions i.e. smaller scars, better cosmesis, faster recovery, less pain, less down time, earlier return to normal function, and less time spent in hospital!

Robotic laparoscopic procedures

Robotic surgery (also called da Vinci) is an extension of laparoscopic surgery but utilises robotic technology (directly controlled by Dr Russell Land) to increase precision and dexterity of conventional laparoscopic procedures. This is now enabling hysterectomy to be performed through a single umbilical (belly button) incision for virtually 'scarless' surgery where appropriate.

Experience counts

Dr Land has a special interest in this method and has performed thousands of these minimally invasive procedures. Unfortunately many patients are still undergoing laparotomy throughout Australia for procedures that could be performed safely and successfully as a laparoscopic procedure with all its inherent benefits.

Please see the other sections within the laparoscopic tab for more details regards specific conditions and procedures including our FAQs.
